Exploring My Personal Favorite Food Spots in Los Angeles

As a self-proclaimed foodie, I’m always on the lookout for new places to eat in Los Angeles. Whether it’s when the girls are in town or I’m craving something international, this city has an incredible variety of options to satisfy every palate. The best part about LA is that, no matter what you’re craving, there’s a 99% chance you can find it here. With its vast neighborhoods, from K-Town to Little Tokyo, Little Bangladesh, and beyond. Los Angeles is a culinary treasure trove. Here are a few of my most frequented food spots in the city.

Porto’s Bakery

If you haven’t tried Porto’s Bakery yet, you’re missing out on a truly satisfying experience . Founded by a Miss Rosa, a Cuban woman from out of her home, Porto’s has grown into a beloved bakery known for its delicious and reasonably priced offerings. With pastries priced between $2-3, cakes and sweets for $3-5, and savory Cuban sandwiches and plates for $8-11, it’s no wonder there’s often a line out the door! My favorite location is in North Ridge, which features plenty of seating and a welcoming atmosphere. It’s a must-visit, and you’ll likely spot a few bags being carried through the airport by travelers who couldn’t resist taking some treats home.

Wat Thai Food Court

For the Thai street food experience, head over to Wat Thai Food Court in Panorama City. Open primarily on weekends, this food court transports you straight to the bustling markets of Thailand. From soups and curries to the classic pad Thai, they offer an array of mouthwatering options, including the must-try mango sticky rice and refreshing Thai teas. The stalls operate on a cash-only system, which makes transactions simple. Most dishes are under $8, so you can enjoy a feast without breaking the bank. My personal favorite is the curried noodles with chicken, pure heaven in a cup!

Donna Jean

Nestled in Sherman Oaks is Donna Jean, the second location of a restaurant that originated in San Diego. Founded by chef Roy, inspired by his mother’s dietary needs during her battle with cancer, this all-vegan spot will impress even the staunchest carnivores. Their brunch menu is simply divine, and the brick oven pizzas are bursting with flavor. One unexpected standout is the “Hot Shrooms” dish, which is a must-try even for those who aren’t fond of mushrooms. Additionally, their handmade pasta, especially the butternut squash ravioli, is a delightful treat that I can’t recommend enough.

King Buyu

Discovered through an Instagram reel, King Buyu has quickly become a favorite. This unique fusion of Korean BBQ and sushi is both creative and delicious. Their menu offers an array of toppings, from eel to tuna and egg, while the bulgogi adds a sweet touch that ties everything together. The lunch special is a steal, three items plus a drink for just $16! It’s the perfect spot for a quick, satisfying meal that leaves you feeling energized for the day.

Los Angeles is a city rich in culinary diversity, and these personal favorites showcase just a glimpse of what it has to offer. Whether you’re in the mood for sweet pastries, Thai Street food, innovative vegan dishes, or a unique fusion experience, there’s something here for everyone. So the next time you find yourself in LA, make sure to check out these incredible spots, you won’t be disappointed!
