A long layover on the way back to Los Angeles gave me the chance to spend a little time at ME Lisbon, the hotel made it surprisingly hard to leave. I’m not usually someone who spends much time at hotels, but between the welcoming service, thoughtful design, and relaxing facilities, this stay felt like a destination of its own.

A central location for exploring Lisbon
I chose ME Lisbon partly because it’s included in the American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts program, which let me use my Platinum Card’s hotel credit toward the stay. Its central location was another big plus, with only a short visit, we wanted somewhere convenient for restaurants, shops, and nearby attractions.
The hotel is within walking distance of the waterfront, where you can watch waves hit against the seawall. The main road has high-end shops, while the streets just behind it offer a more local feel, with cafés, restaurants, and lots of small stores. I also came across an array of vendors on the street selling distinctive souvenirs, clothes, and bags. On a warm day, it was lovely to see so many people out enjoying the city.

A warm welcome and distinctive design
From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome. We were greeted with a smile, offered a towel for our hands, and offered a beverage. Everyone we encountered during our short stay was pleasant and attentive. The hotel’s artwork also caught my eye. Rather than relying on the usual collection of paintings and sculptures, ME Lisbon features memorable details, including a suspended suitcase that looks as if its travel essentials are spilling out from the ceiling. It’s a fun, imaginative touch that makes the hotel enjoyable to explore. There’s a bar and restaurant on the first floor, along with plenty of comfortable seating. Whether you want to settle in with a drink, get some work done, or simply relax, there’s space to do so.

Rooftop views and a relaxing spa
One of the hotel’s highlights Attiko rooftop pool and bar. The pool is on the smaller side, but its position makes it a lovely place to watch the sunset. The rooftop bar takes advantage of the space, with several places to sit and enjoy the view with a wonderfully curated cocktail. The hotel also has a Japanese restaurant below the rooftop, though we didn’t get a chance to try it. We did enjoy dinner at the first-floor restaurant called Fismuler. Which offers delicious local dishes, live music and a warm atmosphere.
My favorite part of the hotel, however, was the spa. Guests can book massages and facials, and the spa includes an indoor pool with long loungers and relaxing music. There’s also both a steam room and a sauna, so you can choose one or both. After a day of walking around Lisbon, the spa was a welcome place to lay down, relax and unwind.

A comfortable suite made for unwinding
We were upgraded to a city-view suite through our Fine Hotels + Resorts booking. The room was spacious, with plenty of room for two people and our suitcases. I especially appreciated the separate toilet and shower area, positioned between a wide sink. The room also had a minibar, complimentary coffee and tea, and a small bottle of local wine waiting for us when we arrived. It was such a thoughtful touch and a delicious way to end the evening. The king size bed was soft and comfortable, perfect after a full day of travel and walking around the city. My favorite feature was the large bathtub, which was roomy enough for two.
Whether Lisbon is the main destination or just a stop along the way, ME Lisbon offers a comfortable place to rest and recharge. Its central location, attentive service, appealing design and relaxing spa made our short stay feel special. I arrived expecting a convenient hotel for a long connection and left wishing I could stay longer. It is a place I will defiantly be revisiting in the future.
