Thinking of Mexico? What Tulum has to offer

When it comes to travel, I’m all about finding the perfect destination that matches your interests and preferences. I’m never one to give a hard “no” to a trip someone’s excited about. Instead, I believe in sharing insights and experiences to

help you make the best decision for your journey. So, let’s dive into what Tulum, Mexico has to offer!

Why Mexico?

Mexico has always been a hot spot for travelers, especially from the U.S. and Canada, thanks to its stunning beaches, rich culture, and favorable weather. Located closer to the equator, Mexico boasts warm

temperatures and crystal-clear waters year-round. Plus, it’s often more budget-friendly for those coming from the north compared to other destinations.

The Beauty of Tulum

Tulum is undeniably picturesque. The beaches feature soft white sand and turquoise waters, perfect for lounging or taking a dip. Nearby, you’ll find fascinating cultural ruins that add a historical touch to your visit. The food scene is diverse,

ranging from delicious street food to upscale dining, and the nightlife is lively during peak seasons. I’ve visited Tulum in both high and low seasons, and the nightlife definitely varies between the two.

Excursions and Activities

One standout experience is the jungle excursion. For around $100 USD per person, you get a full day packed with adventure. You’ll start with cenote swimming and cliff jumping, then ride horses and zip line through the jungle.

The day wraps up with a tequila tasting and dinner featuring locally-made agave tequila. It’s a fantastic deal and a great way to experience a mix of activities.

Accommodation Options

Tulum offers something for every type of traveler. From budget-friendly hostels to stylish Airbnb rentals and luxurious hotels on the main strip, you’ll find options to suit your needs.

However, be prepared for prices that can rival those in the U.S. The city caters heavily to tourists, with many high-end establishments lining the beach.

Westernized Vibes

Tulum has transformed to appeal to digital nomads and long-term visitors, giving it a distinctly westernized feel. Walking through the town, you might feel more like you’re in a trendy Californian beach city than in Mexico. The culture and history can sometimes seem overshadowed by the influx of tourists and the high-end amenities catering to them.

Beaches and Costs

The main beach area is beautiful but is predominantly occupied by pricey foreign hotels and restaurants. Dining out can be quite expensive, with meals often costing a couple of hundred USD for a group.

There’s a public beach area before the hotel strip where you can relax, but it’s small and limited in terms of space and access.

Is Tulum for You?

If you’re looking for a luxury, high-end experience with stunning Instagram-worthy spots, Tulum is a great choice. It’s perfect for group trips, bachelorette parties, or honeymoon getaways. However, if you’re seeking a more culturally immersive experience or a budget-friendly solo trip, you might want to explore other Mexican cities.

For a richer cultural experience or more affordable options, consider destinations like Puerto Vallarta, Bacalar, Mexico City, Isla Mujeres, or Oaxaca. Mexico has an abundance of amazing places to visit beyond Tulum, each offering its own unique charm and attractions.
