Zhongxiao Road Night Market in Taichung city

One thing I did over the previous summer was visit Taiwan, which is a place that’s not really on a whole lot of people‘s radar. Personally, I think if you like yummy food being outside and being able to switch from big city to outdoors Taiwan, ANNA’s probably a good start for you or a good place to have on the bucket list.

Over the course of our stay in Taiwan, we stayed for almost 2 weeks we started in Taipei city of course we flew in stayed for a couple of days made our way down to canting with a national park is and then came back up and stopped in Taichung City. We stayed at this really dope hotel, which all write a post about another time, but it basically had its own hot tub in the room and it felt more like a private studio apartment then it did a hotel room which is really cool.

The best part about staying in Taichung city was the unique food market that they have. Right by our hotel was Zhongxiao Road Night Market. This night market is different than any other. I’ve been to because it’s incorporated into the street. Usually the markets that I’ve been to they have their own set area. There’s not cars going by. It’s very kind of like a fair or a festival where it has its own designated area. This market is literally five blocks of restaurants and food stalls along the streets on both sides and you just walk past them all while the cars are still going. This was different for me because I just wasn’t used to being right on the street.

They have so many food options from Chinese to Japanese to Middle Eastern to Thai food. Let’s not forget the pizza they have on one of the corners. No matter what kind of food you’re into you’ll definitely be able to find something. To me personally, I just thought it was really unique that it was incorporated into the street like this, and some of the stalls had places that you could sit. Some of them had actual restaurants so you could go into and some of them were literally just on the street like how normal street food is so it was very mixed in what you would get depending on where you would go. You also can’t forget all of the Boba in the watermelon juice spots that they have sprinkled in throughout.

Honestly, I did not check out the other markets because this one was so good and we felt that we really could try a bunch of different things here and didn’t really need to venture too far out because this one was not even a block away from our hotel, I want to say that a lot of the other markets were like this one as well so I think that’s a unique thing to the city or maybe other parts of Taiwan as well that the markets are integrated into the actual street, not just their own designated area.

We tried the pizza for fun. It was pretty good actually. We also had some of the noodles from a few different spots and we tried some chicken Shawarma. We also tried a few different Boba tea shops, and had to try the watermelon juice simply because it’s one of my favorites. We went probably three out of the four days we stayed there, and it was kinda like once we found the spots that we liked we went back to them.

If you decide to go to the market, I would definitely say try your hand at some different foods. I tried looking up some recommendations and most of them were in Chinese, which is no surprise. Most of the tourists were Chinese tourists or other Asian tourist. There wasn’t a lot of western tourist there so just give it your best shot and try different food and have fun with it.
